Julie A. Atkins, Director of Purchasing
Often described by her colleagues as a "cheerful, cohesive force," Julie Atkins joined Vision Design in February 1995, bringing with her more than six years of interior design and architectural firm experience. She now has more than 22 years of purchasing experience.
Beginning with Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) budgets, Julie begins the purchasing process at Vision by requesting bids from qualified fabricators, comparing response time, lead times, quality, and pricing. Once the fabricator is selected, she prepares purchase orders and begins the meticulous process of expediting the orders and tracking items to ensure a timely delivery. Her goal is to ensure that the design intentions are parlayed aesthetically into the final product, that the product is produced per the specifications given, and that the product will be within budget and delivered on time to the jobsite.
“Though one of the most intense periods in the purchasing process is coordinating the final delivery of the goods to the site,” Julie says, “the installation is also the most rewarding. From what may have originated as only a conceptual sketch, it is satisfying and exciting to see the final product in place.”
Julie has been Director of Purchasing for the Gold Key Award winning project, La Samanna in St. Martin, French West Indies, and the renowned resort, The Reefs in Bermuda. Her experience also includes residential projects in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and Barbados, West Indies as well as many other prestigious domestic and local projects, both hospitality and residential.
“Being creative myself,” Julie added, “I like working with other creative people, and especially the convivial atmosphere and closeness of working with the Vision Design family.”
Julie lives in Dallas with her teenage son and her husband, who owns an architecture firm specializing in healthcare. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, painting, and entertaining. And, Julie says with her usual big smile, her favorite day of the year is Halloween.
